Let’s talk about the birds, the bees and family trees.

We can start at the beginning, with Bee, the eldest of three sisters and Co-Founder of Tori Chan Matcha. Bee, AKA Julia, was born in the capital city of Sacramento, California and was lovingly given her nickname after the local newspaper, “The Sacramento Bee.”

Eventually, the Bee would fly a little further south to San Clemente, CA and her little sister, and Tori Chan Co-Founder was hatched. Bird, AKA Madeline, used to constantly walk around on her tippy-toes. Their parents would say she looked like a little tweety-bird.

Bird and Bee grew up together, only twenty months apart. Irish twins!…well, close enough. They have definitely had their fair share of spats like any siblings. First, it’s the little things like fighting over each other’s clothes. Then, it’s fighting over the total babe in school who turned out to actually be a total bone-head. But, at the end of the day, they always find a way to laugh about the good times and the not so great. They’re convinced there is no better friend than a sister.

TORI CHAN was born in 2023. First, from a love of family, togetherness, and sisterhood and then, of course, from Bird and Bee’s mutual undying love for matcha.

The word TORI in Japanese directly translates to bird, which is both an ode to the place our wonderful matcha comes from and a testament of Bee’s love for her little sister.

The ladybug seen on our packaging represents our littlest sister, nicknamed Bug—for reasons no one can seem to remember. She is the baby of the family and we love her very much.

TORI CHAN brings you a world of playfulness and fun, serving as a reminder that the simple joys in life are where you look for them.
